No closed captions (even if you turn subtitles to English)

What happened?

I downloaded the Jitsi Android App from Google Play, and joined a meeting. Desktop users can see Closed Captions, but I can see nothing on the Android App. There isn't even an option for Closed Captions - I tried turning subtitles on to English, but no text appeared anywhere I could find it.

Hi @nikkilocke, I was also able to reproduce the same behavior - captions show correctly for desktop/web participants, but on Android no Closed Captions are visible even when subtitles are enabled.

I noticed a previously closed issue (#16131) which indicates partial support on mobile, but it looks like the captions overlay was still being rendered behind the native RTCView.

I’ve opened a PR with a fix (#16718) that updates the native captions container styling so captions display properly above the video.
